I always try to relate the things with real life, this makes
me to remember the concepts or things very well. One day I tried to relate DWH
to real life thing/Organ that is nothing but BRAIN.
Brain and Datawarehouse are two different system, but there
are more similarities between them. Yes, what you read is right. Let’s see the similarities:
Datawarehouse: In normal definition, collection of heterogeneous
data. A large store of data accumulated from a wide range of sources.
Sources may be any data files (.xlsx, .csv, .txt), any RDBMS
Brain: As like Datawarehouse, brain also receives data from
various sources. Did you had a chance to think about what are the sources of Brain
to feed the data into it? Yes we have source in our body, those are our 5
senses.
- Sight – Eyes are the one of the sources to the brain. Brain receives input from Eyes.
- Hearing – Ear is the organ of hearing.
- Taste – Taste is recognized by tongue/mouth
- Smell – Nose is the responsible organ to sense the smell
- Touch – The sense of Touch is available throughout the body. Skin is the responsible organ to sense the touch.
Now we have seen how the data stores into the DWH and BRAIN.
Now let’s see how can fetch the information or data stored into it. Here we are
not going to see the techniques how to fetch from DWH or Brain.
Fetching the data from DWH mechanism we call as retrieving and
getting exact data or information from the retrieved information we call as extraction.
Let’s discussion this retrieving and extraction with an example.
Let’s assume bookshop is the DWH, it contains so many books.
Now you went to shop and asked the shopkeeper for C++ book. Then shopkeeper
places different publishers C++ book, this is called retrieval. But you won’t purchase
all the books right, you will buy only one book, this is called extraction.
Now let’s see how the brain works, best way to understand
the concepts are with examples. Let’s this also with example. If I ask you what
are all movies you watched during your college times, now your brain fetches
few movies, this is called retrieval. And if I ask you what the best movie in
it is, you will tell a particular movie name, and this is called extraction.
After thinking about this similarities the next question in
my mind, how to remember all the things in your brain. We can fetch the data
from the brain only when we remember the things. But DWH, we developed so many
tools to fetch the data and make it a beautiful report to view. But what about
Brain, I googled it regarding remembering techniques, there I found one video from
TED, a wonderful speech given by Joshua Foer, won the U.S.
Memory Championship.
He explained that try to relate the things with images… you
can go through the video regarding that.
After getting the solution for remembering the things, one
more doubt strike on my mind that is nothing but capacity. If the DWH storage capacity
is reached maximum, we can add external devices. But it’s not possible to add
external brain to human body. Again started googling, if found that Brain has
infinite capacity. It’s not my words.
As per Sir John Eccles, 1963 won Nobel Prize in Physiology
or Medicine. He stated in regards to the percentage of which humans use their
brain.
"The human brain has infinite potential - so how can you calculate a percentage of infinity?”
That means no need of external brain to human body
